Girija Devi Temple (also called Nabhi Gaya)
సతీదేవి దేహ భాగాలలో ఒక భాగం ప్రస్తుతం ఒరిస్సాగా పిలువబడుచున్న ఒకప్పటి ఓడ్యాణంలో పడటం చేత ఈ ప్రదేశం శక్తిపీఠంగా మారింది
ఒరిస్సాలోని కటక్ సమీపంలో వైతరణీ నది ఉంది. ఈ నదీ తీరంలోనే వైతరణి అనే గ్రామం ఉన్నది. ఇది జాజ్ పూర్ రోడ్ కి 20 కి.మీటర్ల దూరంలో ఉంటుంది. వైతరణికి అర్థం మరణం తరువాత న్యాయ నిర్ణయం కోసం యమలోక ప్రయాణం చేసేటప్పుడు దారిలో వచ్చే నది. ఇక్కడి వైతరణీ నది పిండప్రపధానాలకు, పితృ దేవతార్చనలకు ప్రశస్తమైనదని పురాణాలు తెలుపుతున్నాయి.
సతీదేవి యొక్క నాభిస్థానం ఈ వైతరణీ నదీతీరంలో పడడం చేత ఇది మహాక్షేత్రంగా మారింది. ఈ శక్తి పీఠాన్ని గిరిజాదేవి అని కూడా పిలుస్తారు.
విరజా నదీతీరంలో ఉండుటం చేత బిరుజాదేవి – భిరజాదేవి అని స్థానిక భాషలలో మార్పు చెందినది. ఇక్కడి గిరిజాదేవి ఈ నాటికి త్రిశక్తి రూపిణిగానే పూజలను అందుకుంటోంది. వైతరణీ నదిలోని ఒక దీవిలో శ్వేత వరాహ విష్ణుమూర్తి ఆలయం వుండటం ఇక్కడి వ
Goddess Durga is worshipped as the central deity in this temple. It is the name of the temple that gave this place the name of Viraja Kshetra and The Durga idol has two hands holding a trident in one hand and pulling the tongue of Mahish with the other. The navel of Sati fell here and it might be the reason why the place is known as Nabhi Gaya as well. Vaitarini River flows through the Biraja Kshetra and the deity is worshipped here as Trishakti Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasaraswati.
